UPDATED: Fri, Jul 13, 09:13AM
From Marvel's X-Men to television shows such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Gifted, Runaways, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Stranger Things, people with genetic mutations are featured as having superpowers. How realistic is the science behind these superpower-creating mutations? The Fleet Science Center, geneticists, and the creative teams behind some of these popular shows discuss the possibility of humans one day having superpowers. Panelists include Craig Titley (executive producer, writer, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Akela Cooper (producer, writer Luke Cage), Dr. Frances Barron (scientist, VP, R&D and regulatory affairs at Nanomedical Diagnostics), Dr. Brett Goldsmith (scientist, CTO Nanomedical Diagnostics), Troy Sandberg (bioengineer, Siebel Scholar at the Jacobs School of Engineering at the University of California, San Diego), and Dr. Steven Snyder (president & CEO, Fleet Science Center, moderator).
