Radical Activism in Comics

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Hazel Newlevant (Comics for Choice, Puerto Rico Strong), Io Ascarium (ABO Comix: A Queer Prisoner's Anthology), Amber Garza (coordinator, Geeks OUT L. A.), and friends discuss their Eisner-nominated and award-avoiding projects and how they use them as a means for political organizing. Panelists will discuss how to be a poor artist using comics and fandom to fund-raise for worthy causes, blending the personal and political in our creations, fair distribution of tasks between organizers and contributors, how to subvert geekdom's apolitical consumer mindset, and how to create a truly radical (queer, anti-fascist, intersectional) social justice community among fellow geeks in the current political climate.
